Do you want to be part of an ambitious in-house strategy team?
The strategy team consists of experienced ex-consultants from McKinsey, Bain/QVARTZ and others and drives strategic projects throughout the business, supporting the executive management team. The company is a leading player in the shipping and logistics industry in Europe and has a strong continuing record of acquiring businesses, leading to a tripling in company size over the last 12 years. Further, the company is underway in a large green transition of its entire operations and an extensive digitization journey. The strategy supports this journey in an industry that is undergoing significant change. This includes an all-encompassing sustainability transformation, digitizing a traditionally handheld industry, consolidation resulting in much M&A activity, rapid technology changes such as autonomous transport and many players pursuing value chain integration strategies – all things which will drastically change the industry landscape.
To support this journey, we are looking to grow and strengthen our strategy team and are therefore seeking ambitious strategy profiles. The seniority of the role depends on the applicant’s experience and profile.
The strategy team supports the Executive Management Team (EMT) and the lines of business with consultancy services on various and very diverse strategic projects throughout the company. Projects include topics like strategy, new ventures, climate adaption plan incl. multiple projects related to green solutions implementation, M&A, reorganization, digital projects, operational improvement etc.
Today, the team consists of 11 employees with the majority being experienced hires from McKinsey and Bain. Personal fit is an important pre-requisite. This is reflected in the frequent social events, which attract high attendance from the team.
The Director of the strategy team has a background from McKinsey where he specialized in strategy and transport. His predecessors have gone into the business with large P&L responsibilities of +1bn DKK revenue each. The strategy team reports directly to EMT. Therefore conversations with the EMT is also a part of the interview process, to ensure compatibility for the potential future collaboration.
Your focus will be to support the company leadership and business with all tasks needed for the project to become a success, this will include, but is not limited to:
• Scoping and organizing project efforts
• Sparring and interaction with senior management
• Project planning and management
• Problem solving, data analysis and business cases
• Focus on finding practical solutions to make sure “change sticks”
• Involvement and coordination with all stakeholders
• Coaching and leadership of junior colleagues
You will be expected to be able to lead projects, but with close sparring and focus on development together with the head of the team.
Ambitious, hardworking and strong personal drive
The S&C Team consists of strong profiles from McKinsey and Bain/QVARTZ, and with many BCGs now having transitioned to positions within the company. Therefore, the ideal candidate has practical experience from a top-tier management consulting firm or from a similar position in another large, international company, and ideally leadership and coaching experience as a project manager. Most importantly you have a good sense of project management, strong problem solving and analytical skills and excellent communication skills.
The job is based in Copenhagen at Headquarter but travelling in periods to other locations around Europe must be expected.
