Head of Safety & Environment

The Role… We are currently looking to recruit a Head of Safety for DFDS Seaways PLC. Based in Immingham but also with responsibility for satellite operations, you will provide expert advice on Health & Safety matters to the company. Reporting to the Director; Health, Safety & Security, you will be responsible for a team of Health and Safety, Environmental & Training Experts based at Immingham. You will have a proven track record of Leadership and creating a compelling and engaging safety vision, having the ability to influence senior management by devising and implementing safety policy and creating a vibrant and positive safety culture throughout the business.

Who we want… You will have proven leadership experience in a similar role, with a demonstrable ability to work with front line staff and senior leadership teams alike.  You should have experience dealing with complex operational issues and mandatory regulatory compliance. You will have experience in influencing, engaging and coaching teams to aid development in order to create and nurture a positive Health & Safety culture. Experience in creating and implementing a safety platform and supporting structure would also be advantageous. NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma or NVQ5 (or equivalent) is essential and Chartership of IOSH would be preferable. You will be up to date with current health and safety legislation and advise the company of best practice and any new legislation that may affect the business from a Health Safety, and Environmental perspective.

Key Responsibilities….

  • Lead the Health & Safety team, setting and implementing the policy and culture to deliver the operational strategy
  • Influencing, engaging and coaching key internal and external stakeholders to effect change and create a true safety culture
  • Ensure robust major incident investigation takes place to identify root cause and making recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
  • Constantly assessing opportunities for learning and sharing best practice across the organisation
  • Ensure continued compliance with OHSAS 45001 standards and lead the business in gaining further relevant accreditations.
  • Represent DFDS in meetings with trade associations, government departments, regulatory bodies and customers regarding Health and Safety.
