On-board Services Commercial Director

Who are we: DFDS Business Unit Channel operate two routes between Dover - Calais and Dover – Dunkerque.   With 6 vessels operating 54 departures per day, we ship more than 1.3 million trucks, 1.1 million cars and 4.8 million passengers per year.  We are currently seeking to hire a new Onboard Services (OBS) Commercial Director.

The Role: Reporting to the VP and Head of BU Channel and based in Dover, this is a unique opportunity for a result driven individual who enjoys challenging the status quo and is able to think creatively in order to identify new market opportunities and adjust to the needs of various passenger groups.

The OBS Commercial Director has overall operational and profit and loss responsibility for all OBS commercial activities on-board the vessels and is responsible the OBS teams both ship and shore.  The team ashore is made up of 8 colleagues who focus on category management, compliance management and marketing activities, whilst the 450 strong team onboard are responsible for delivering great experiences to our customers and are led by the Head of On-board Services for each vessel. 

Purpose: The purpose of the OBS Commercial Manager is to transform an already successful business towards an even more profitable result by working innovatively with trends and concepts that will enable us to become more customer driven.

Who we need: An excellent people centric leader with experience from a Retail, Food & Beverage, and/or Hospitality Management industry. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, a good instinct for business and analytics and the ability to influence at all levels within an organisation.  High levels of energy, a positive ‘can do’ attitude and the desire to motivate others are also essential requirements for this role.
